The Harvard Estate: Wrought Iron Fencing and Pedestrian Gates in Seattle, WA

Wrought iron fencing and pedestrian gates can provide security and controlled access while complementing the architecture and landscaping of a residential community. At The Harvard Estate, a luxury condominium and townhome community in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, custom fencing defines the property perimeter and directs residents and visitors to controlled pedestrian entrances. The coordinated gates and access control system provide secure entry and exit while maintaining the property’s attractive, traditional appearance.

The black wrought iron fencing surrounds the property and directs residents and visitors to designated pedestrian gates for entry and exit. Its traditional vertical picket design complements the architecture and landscaping while providing a clearly defined security perimeter. Automated Gates & Equipment designed, fabricated, and installed the fully custom fencing, pedestrian gates, and access control system.

Coordinating Wrought Iron Fencing and Pedestrian Gates

We designed the wrought iron fencing and pedestrian gates as a coordinated system, with the same vertical lines and spear-point details carried through both the fencing and gates.

The spear points along the top of the fencing increase security while also providing a traditional ornamental iron appearance. The open design maintains clear sightlines through the fence, making it harder for someone to conceal themselves, while allowing the landscaping and architecture to remain visible from the street.

One site-specific detail is the fencing installed alongside a sloped exterior stairway. Rather than using level fence sections, we designed the iron fencing to follow the stair grade. This allows the security fencing to maintain consistent coverage while fitting the property’s contours.

Pedestrian Gate Access Control for Residents and Visitors

The pedestrian gates are always locked and use access control devices incorporated into the masonry gate pillars. Residents and authorized visitors can enter a code to release a gate.

The telephone access control system also allows a visitor to establish voice communication and request entry. This provides controlled pedestrian access without requiring the gates to remain unlocked for visitors.

The wrought iron pedestrian gates have locked handles on both sides, so controlled access applies to both entry and exit. Each gate also includes a keyed lock override for entry or exit.
